Written March 21, 1981 following St. Patrick's Day and yet another year of The Troubles. I was in a punk band at the time and we were writing about political strife in Ireland and the UK during this period. This song was a little too mellow for our brand of assertive action and so it remained a demo tape until I decided to revive it after a deep dive into my archives during the pandemic. The true inspiration came more from an Irish gal I fancied at the time, and watching her parents stand helplessly by while their homeland was in conflict. To them and her and all the Irish around the world (including my own family), I hope that the north and south can one day be united.
