It was deep on a perfectly blustery New York night when Dave Rave and Gary Pig Gold, in search of some indoor sustenance following fruitless days vinyl shopping in the Village, chanced upon an intriguingly tiny street opposite Grandpa Munster's Italian restaurant.
Creeping up its cobblestones, our heroes were suddenly captivated by the trademark sounds of Uptown doo-wop wafting from a lone window lit three stories above.
"Donna, Donna, the Prima Donna," an all-too-familiar baritone sneered as Gary and Dave inched ever closer to its apparent source like moths towards the proverbial flame. "She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor, even though she's the girl next door."
Instinctively beginning to cry high as well into the darkness (being sure to add those supposedly tricky third- and fifth-harmonies nonetheless), a figure from behind those closed panes was successfully coaxed to join them with his own perfectly-pitched tales of roving eyes and broken hearts.
As said lament surely spun out its 45-RPM's, feet were then heard dashing down a staircase, an adjacent door flung open, and there stood Mark Johnson, beckoning his two long-lost Sisters-in-song up some flights where guitars were instantly produced, four TEAC tracks were engaged, and the music poured fully forth into the still night.
As it still continues to, but of course.
